Bosch has annual sales of 8.8 billion here in the United States, with 70 locations, and employs 22,000 employees in the U.S. In addition to tools, the company offers innovations in software solutions with Buisiness Rules Management Systems, specifically engineered for the financial industry, Emobility, as well as retail government and healthcare. Their Healthcare division works under the dual names of Visual Telecommunications Network and Health Hero Network, and develops technology that allows doctors to manage patient health. Still involved in the automotive industry, Bosch makes most of it gross through this sector in the United Staes, with a sales of 5.6 billion in 2010. Employing 13,000 associates and operating from 30 primary locations. Power tools, security systems, home appliances, and thermo-technologies, round out Bosch’s Consumer Goods and Building Technology sector, which boasted sales of 2.0 billion in 2010. Drive and control, solar energy and packaging, added an additional 1.2 billion to their portfolio, in 2010. Bosch’s Industrial Technology sector also employs 2,800 associates and has 20 primary locations Stateside.
Besides its role as one of the largest worldwide corporate conglomerates, Bosch continues it social activities to elevate and educate others with the formation of the Carnegie Bosch Institute for applied studies in international management. The institute, which was formed in 1990 by the inspiration of long time CEO and Bosch Chairman Hans L Merkle, was funded with a generous endowment by Robert Bosch Corporation. The Institutes mission was written and signed by Hans L Merkle and Carnegie Mellon President, Richard M. Cyrert. It states that the purpose of the Institute shall be:
“First, to stimulate scientific research in management issues relevant to business with a global orientation in order to help improve international management … by developing …guidance for managers in an international environment.
Second, to disseminate knowledge in the field of international management to improve the understanding of both managers and researchers of fundamental issues related to the global orientation of business.
Third, to foster international cooperation by encouraging close partnership among corporate, foundation, and academic partners from around the world.”
