Makita 10″ Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw LS1016L

August 23, 2012

King of the Miter Saws?

There has been a lot of industry buzz on the new   Makita 10″ Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw LS1016L, as marketing claims on it have flooded the press that this is the very best miter saw released in recent years. So lets get into it, and see if this saw has what it takes to be a competitive miter saw in todays market.

To begin Makita engineers have cleverly put a micro adjust on the handle giving you the control to put the laser where you would prefer to make your cut, whether straight, right, or even left. However, because Makita knows that there is a segment of construction professionals in the industry that do not prefer lasers, Makita has included an On/Off switch on the LS1016L that allows that segment to simply turn the laser off. Also included on the Makita LS1016L is 2 pairs of independent rails, meaning it’s a four rail system, the rails have been specifically designed to deliver the smoothest cut available and there is even an option to tighten or lock the rails for traveling. Even though the saw weighs 52 pounds it is still surprisingly compact for a saw of that size, making it ideal for transporting it from job to job.

Other features of Makita’s 10″ Dual Slide Miter Saw are a 15 amp motor that is strategically placed on the side, this provides a much roomier layout and total working surface of 4 – 5″. In laymans terms this is the same height as three 2 x 4′s stacked. As for power, It can maintain 3,200 RPM’s under load, and has a slide action that produces a 12″ wide cross cut at 90 degrees. The Makita LS1016L possesses a one touch locking system with a standard set of positions that can be set by letting up on the trigger once it is put into the desired cut position. For cut versatility, the LS1016L ensures that angles are as easily accomplished as  beveled cuts, thanks to the rear handle that is easily accessed from either side of the saw. In addition, there is a 4 3/4″ dual sliding fence that has a top and bottom adjustment giving awesome support for beveled cuts. New additions to this particular model are the vertical clamps, the clamp is movable as it can lock down straight at multiple locations. This means that once you tighten the clamp to the material, it tightens itself to the LS1016L saw. Our conclusion, the Makita LS1016L 10″ Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw is a solid tool and built to handle large loads with it’s tough motor and plentiful workspace.
